This section provides you with information on the role and work of the Defence section in Bratislava, introducing the personnel and links to UK and Slovak military websites. The Defence Section in Bratislava is headed by the Military Attaché, Major Adam Jowett, who holds non-residential accreditation as he lives in Austria and operates from the British Embassy in Vienna, while maintaining an office in the British Embassy in Bratislava. The Defence Section in Vienna is termed a ‘Regional Hub’ as the three attachés who work from there have responsibility for seven countries. Mrs Miriam Fajnorova, the Defence Section assistant, mans the office in Bratislava during working hours.
The Military Attaché is the personal representative of the British Chief of the Defence Staff and his main responsibilities are as follows:

To provide advice to both the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence and Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the SlovakRepublic on all defence matters pertaining to the SlovakRepublic and the United Kingdom.

To co-ordinate and further develop the bilateral military relationship between the United Kingdom and the SlovakRepublic.

To promote the United Kingdom’s views on defence and security policy in the Slovak Republic through the development of personal links with the Ministry of Defence, General Staff and attachés from other armed forces.

To assist British defence companies wishing to establish business links in the SlovakRepublic.

To maintain close links with surviving Slovak veterans who fought with the British during the Second World War.
